Crossfit Australia: More than 50 athletes to compete in Crossfit event
Crossfit is Australia’s oldest fitness event and it’s the largest one-day fitness competition in the world.
The sport has a strong and growing following, and with the sport’s popularity growing, more and more Australians are getting into the fitness game.
But Crossfit’s popularity is growing even faster than the sport itself.
According to Crossfit.com, in 2016, it was estimated that more than 50,000 people were participating in the Crossfit competition.
Crossfit Australia’s CEO, Tony Pritchard, told Al Jazeera on Tuesday that Crossfit had grown by nearly 30% from 2015 to 2016, and was on track to surpass 200,000 participants in 2020.
“We’ve been seeing that over the past 12 months, so that’s a fantastic thing, and we’ve been very pleased with the growth of Crossfit over the last few years,” Pritcher said.
“I think we’re seeing the growth, and I think it’s an exciting time for Crossfit.”
He also revealed that CrossFit had recently started using new technology that allows it to test new workouts on more participants than ever before.
“In terms of the technology, we’ve seen tremendous growth, we’re now seeing the largest number of people who are taking part in CrossFit in the past 10 years,” he said.
“Over the last 12 months we’ve now seen double the number of participants that we saw in 2015, so we’re doing a fantastic job.”
The Crossfit team was in Melbourne for a press conference.
They’re hoping to have the first athletes to participate in the competition in Melbourne, in the next few weeks.
The event is taking place at the Melbourne Olympic Park.
